Bandwagon Fallacy

The cows saying unanimously that Snowball had come in and milked them in their sleep is an example of the bandwagon fallacy because the cows are treating their collective belief as proof. Even if one of the cows had secretly not believed Snowball had done this, they could have still agreed with the other cows to not stand out. Because a majority of a certain group believes they are correct, the people who don't agree or don't have an opinion will tend to lean towards siding with the majority.

I think that this is especially crucial because of the amount of time students see teachers at school, as in a college setting they can be one of the first people to notice signs of mental health struggles in students.

This seems like it could be a good way to approach the issue facing the mh crisis, but maybe ensuring its consistency and standardization could be beneficial

Possible Issues with this

While I mostly support this proposal, I think it has a few faults. I think the main one lies in a student trying to connect with a "peer coach", and it not working out well due to the fact the student and the peer coach do not know each other well. When talking about mental health, there is a massive amount of trust being placed in the other person, and the fact that these peer coaches still are peers, can contribute to a possibly uncomfortable nature of communication. I also know that the peer coach would be trained how to handle certain situations where the things shared would be needed to get reported to people higher up. Obviously this is a good thing in terms of safety, but how can this program foster open communication while also ensuring that safety is prioritized? Overall I like the concept of more mental health access in university settings though.

I think providing students with the opportunity to have support in multiple different facets of university life, with all of its challenges is obviously beneficial. Where I think this specific proposal is a lot better than other proposed solutions is that it is done via peers. I think that this is a lot more accessible than having designated counseling or a more structured setup, which could possibly feel overwhelming to students who need help but are not confident to speak up and ask for it.

Fear Appeal/Scapegoating/False Dilemma

In this sentence Squealer calls Snowball a traitor. Rather than providing actual evidence that Snowball is a traitor, and is planning to bring down Animal Farm, Squealer relies on manipulating the emotions of other animals to create as much fear as possible. A false dilemma is created here, by Squealer pretty much saying that the animals had to put their trust in Napoleon or risk getting brought down by Snowball.
This can directly be seen in modern politics. Rather than presenting facts, politicians and candidates can rely heavily on emotions to make themselves come off as the only logical choice, or by presenting the viewpoint that if the people don't vote for them, problems can occur.

Douglass Narrative Patterns

Douglass's use of comparison and contrast contributes to the overall purpose of the text. By comparing numerous different things throughout the book, such as country and city life, different slaveholders, and different times in his life, Douglass is able to describe the challenges and hardships faced by slaves during this time period, and convey the driving purpose of his book, which is to convince slaveholders to abolish slavery and convince those who were on the fence about the issue.

Identity Quote

Douglass still reflects on his past, living as a slave. He also ties that back into his new life of freedom. The freedom he has now has been influenced by the experiences that he had previously, and he also reflects about how the feelings that he has while experiencing free work in New York City is influenced by his past identity involving being a slave.

compare/contrast -> after being free from slavery

This paragraph illustrates the difference Douglass experiences in being in a shipyard in New York free from being watched or controlled by slaveholders. There are similarities and differences in the work that Douglass does in the shipyard, but I think that the main point of the passage is to compare his life now from the life he had under slavery.
