Using the meta-analysis, I found out that the main topic in the research (as of February 13, 2024) is the problem of bias.

This is a broad term, but it boils down to artificial intelligence displaying leanings that may lead to things such as racism, sexism, and marginalization. This article is about how that manifests in text-to-image models. I see it as sort of a propagation of existing social problems.

Seems a bit more technical when it gets into the nitty gritty, but the question is whether people are qualified to provide guidelines for this artificial intelligence. Again, a more technical one, so I may not explore this as much unless it clicks into place.

This source is incredibly, incredibly useful, and I wish I had found it out sooner. It is a meta-analysis that summarizes the main concerns surrounding the ethics of generative AI, and also offers links to other research papers that talk about each of these subjects. The main focal point of the article is a bar graph, quickly and easily showing me what the main concerns are in academic spaces over artificial intelligence. This will give me a jumping off point to research further. On the actual article page, https://link.springer.com/article/10.1007/s11023-024-09694-w, the blue text links to citations of other works.

Here’s a very interesting blog owned by photographer Craig Boehman I found while trying to look for dissenting opinions. Will this source be good to reference while looking for actual solutions? Probably not, to be honest? I definitely am writing from a biased perspective, but also this source is a former photographer’s blog as opposed to a real article or research paper. It makes some very interesting points, some of which I think are more valid than others.
I should definitely try to expand the scope of this topic to also involve things like ChatGPT. But also maybe I need to narrow down to a singular question, as this is a problems and solutions essay.

For one, photography does something that could never be done before by human hands - it could capture a moment, perfectly and now nearly instantly. It serves an incredibly important purpose besides that, of documentation. Paintings could still be done of more abstract or surreal subjects detached of the real world. There's also somewhat an art to photography, of course. Generating art doesn't really do anything a normal human artist couldn't do already with a camera or drawing tools. It saves time and takes less skill.

The article in question is from the United Nations, and takes a somewhat neutral stance on the issue of artificial intelligence. It speaks to the controversies surrounding the technology, with some being angered that it is ripping directly from their art or writing, and others being glad it can be used as a tool to help them. The author expresses concern over the copyright issues and implications of the scraping of the internet for data. They have, however, “been advocating for text-data mining (TDM) exceptions under our copyright laws.” This article doesn’t have many answers, but it asks a lot of questions, and points to the scale of the issue being on the international level.

I feel like today there's a lot of usage of doublespeak in our media, and a lot of people fall into patterns of using it. A simple example is saying you are going to fight a war for the purpose of peace. Orwell also predicts a deniability of objective reality, but while he mostly meant through government censorship, in our modern society its that combined with a massive flood of information that is so numerous and often contradictory that we do not know what to think.

And thirdly, earlier in the book he states that people in general don't really write, they speak into machines. So maybe he doesn't have practice with that.
I believe the party purposely does not let citizens know the year in order to isolate them from a concept of history before the Party, as well as just to confuse them in general.

The Party has complete control over basically everything, so they would be able to make sure that the calendar year was effectively removed.

Commentary has shifted over to elections for either the national or state senate. In my opinion, the most important people you need to vote for if you want to see change is on a more local level, so focusing on that a bit would be welcome.

Catholic Social Teaching teaches us the further removed a governing body is from someone else's situation, the less power they should have to dictate what should help with said situation.

This can apply to a multitude of things, such as levels of government or even aid in developing nations. You always see these inventions that seem like they are going to do a lot for developing populations, but the people who made them are usually far removed from the context of actually living there that they miss a lot of key details. You had these people in the 80's, for example, trying to teach kids in poor African villages how to code when they had no use for that knowledge.

Caster is arguing about the black voting population, and how it's been argued that "Kamala is failing black men." Black men are, the caster says, a very small member of the majority, and we should really be paying attention to the white women.

Seriously though, I keep hearing this. Just because half the country doesn't vote for you doesn't mean you have to hate half the country. Weird argument I've heard elsewhere.

So yeah, I remember seeing this while scrolling through the news. The Republican in charge of counting voters in Pennsylvania said that the voting is legitimate despite claims by Trump on his own social media.

Very interesting to hear this, I already knew the Republican Party was decently divided though. Seems to call party bias into question when counting votes, but who knows?

Nancy talks about record voter turnout from minority populations. Maybe she's making the point that they feel more threatened than ever by the opposing side (likely Trump in this case) or more motivated by the incentive for change.

Trump has infamously spewed anti-immigration rhetoric that is arguably racist in nature. This may leave some minority populations feeling threatened, and has already lead to consequences in Springfield, Ohio.
