The tension between Malo and Amina is high. I know the streets throwing out someone’s weed, money, and their gun would’ve gotten Amina touched, but because that’s her song he held his composure. Amina was not right for throwing out his things if she was already kicking him out.

When Malo was reading his mom journal I could understand where she was coming from in the sense of invading her privacy, and Malo was wrong because he didn’t want her to know about the illegal things he was doing so he had no right to be in her business.

People may think Amina is a bad mom for not stopping Malo from selling weed, but it’s like how is she going to stop someone from doing something that can benefit her, but also it’s either he do it and she knows where he’s at, or he do it behind her back and end up dead or in jail.

Uzi was more reckless. Malo has a vision that selling would get him money for his mom and brother not for fun. Uzi was in the streets for fun and the thrill.

I don’t think Chaka understands how much damage he has done to Malo.

Chaka should be ashamed of himself. The fact that Malo thinks he has to sell dope, and risk his freedom because he knows his dad wouldn’t help the family is crazy. The only reason young men in general sell dope or get illegal money is because there moms are single mothers.

Chapter 20

Amina thoughts are valid because both of her son’s life revolves around the streets. So she worries cause there at the age where she can tell them not to do something/wish for the best but they would still end up doing it because Uzi is selfish and Malo thinks he’s helping and he follows his older brother.

Malo is just like any street kid who got problems at home, but most of all wanna help their mom with money problems. My thing is why the first thing always selling dope? Why do young men think that’s the best way instead of getting a job. This chapter reminds me of my uncle and his mindset to help the family, but it always lead to problems.

Chapter 19

This chapter was interesting because I feel like Malo is very smart when it comes to noticing bull crap. When someone shows they care, why put any energy or effort into their life? Why try and force something that’s not the same? You can tell that Malo peeped how people would treat him and his mom like they never existed, but expected a hi. Like I can totally relate to this chapter because people can judge you, talk crap, switch on you, but you still going to move on with life and forget them.

The first two pages were real. Most teachers will judge you and not even know your story. Like why the teacher trying to embarrass Malo in front of everyone? Well I know why because she have a different perspective on how young men should carry themselves, not knowing that when you come from a ruff area/ community you express yourself in ways people would think is negative.
