Draft for letter to senator

Dear Senator Plumb,

My name is Taylor Dunaway, and I am a senior at Judge Memorial Catholic High School in your district. I am writing to let you know my opposition to HB0018, which would remove the requirement that individuals hold a hunting or fishing license to enter wildlife management areas.

This issue matters because wildlife management areas are specifically designated to protect sensitive ecosystems and the species that depend on them. The current license requirement not only helps regulate use of these areas, but also provides critical funding for conservation, habitat restoration, and long-term wildlife management. Removing this requirement could reduce necessary funding and increase pressure on lands that are meant to be carefully protected.

Utah’s natural landscape is one of our state’s greatest strengths. Protecting it requires shared responsibility. Requiring a license for access to wildlife management areas is, in my view, a reasonable policy that ensures those who use these spaces contribute to their preservation.

I respectfully urge you to oppose HB0018 and maintain the current license requirement to safeguard the long-term health of Utah’s wildlife and public lands.

Thank you for your time and service to our community.

Sincerely,

Taylor Dunaway
