Dear Representative Hoang Nguyen,
My name is Jana B_____, and I am a 12th-grade student at Judge Memorial High School in your district. I am writing to you about school excused absences, an issue that directly affects students, families, and communities across Utah. I am particularly concerned about the mental and physical health of high school students, including myself, and their education being beneficial for them, which is connected to proposed legislation such as Bill HB0145 School Excused Absence Amendments. I respectfully urge you to pass this bill because students need to be able to take care of their health mentally and physically, in order to make their education the most beneficial for them. This issue is significant because many schools overlook the fact that students need to balance their lives in order to be healthy and happy. This bill seeks to add to the "valid excuses" for school absences, which would create a positive impact on many students who have various activities in life and/ or health problems. Given the current conditions in our state, this issue requires serious attention because it has become more difficult for students to be able to attend various sports events, competitions, education opportunities, and personal health-focused time.
