Social justice, to me, as a 10th grader is everyone getting what they need in their lives, and everyone being treated with equal kindness. There should be equity in everything that happens socially and in society. If there is no equity, then there will be injustices and discrimination in society. All injustices affect my convictions and how I act, like misogyny and sexism making me tend to be more wary around men, which is injust, because social justice is also nobody feeling inferior to or scared of others.
To continue on a point, I believe that social justice is the idea of equity for everyone and everything in society. For example, everyone getting fair housing and equal rights. However, this is not the case. People are still constantly being discriminated against, so there is no equity in society and there are many injustices still happening in our world today. Social justice is also people not being discriminated against and discriminatory actions and practices being addressed and stopped. If there is no equity in society, there is no social justice.
Another thing critical to social justice is protest against wrongs and injustice. A quote by Elie Wiesel articulates this well, stating “There may be times when we are powerless to prevent injustice, but there must never be a time when we fail to protest.” This means that, even though you may be powerless to stop something, you must protest this and demand change and justice. When something is unjust, you must fight back and protest, not just stand by. This is how social justice can be truly achieved.
In conclusion, social justice needs to be upheld, and we can do this by having equity in all of our decisions and actions and fighting back and protesting when there are injustices in society. Some things that I can do for social justice are studying my actions to make sure they are all truly fair, and learning about others I do not know a lot about, and teaching people who do not know much about injustices about them and how to alleviate this injustice. We need this social justice and learning about other people to support a safe, healthy, and fair world for everybody.

The idea that we must always be able to protest is very important as it’s the ability to change what should not remain. If we are unable to change we will be stuck in an eternal loop of failure. This will ultimately lead to a collapse of society as growth isn’t impossible and the only way is down.

I love how you used the same quote I used from Elie Wiesel at the Nobel Peace Prize about how we should never fail to protest injustice.

I think your idea of learning about the community of people is a great idea that I haven’t heard yet from all the other essays.

I think that removing “in conclusion” these 2 words, would make this article more impactful. Also, you said how you study your own actions to make it truly fair. How do you know if things are truly fair if you are not in the shoes of someone else? and can things really be fair?

First of all, I found the quote “If there is no equity in society, there is no social justice.” very powerful. Equity is important to uphold social justice, and here you make that very clear. Aside from the quote, I found myself agreeing with your ideas on social justice. For example, you stated that you believe that “..social justice is the idea of equity for everyone and everything in society.” In my own idea of what social justice is, equity is a major part of it, just like your definition of social justice. In general, I really liked how clearly you expressed what you believe social justice is and how we could keep it in society.

I like how clearly this essay was written. I was clearly able to understand the message throughout each paragraph. The elaboration of how to improve our society stuck out to me as well.

I liked how you had more than one definition as to what social justice meant to you personally. I like how you used equity instead of equality to talk about taking a step in the right direction towards social justice. I also liked how you used being educated or taught about these topics could lead us in the direction of achieving social justice as well.
