"Without justice and love, peace will always be a great illusion"- Helder Camara. This quote by Helder Camara encapsulates the meaning of social justice. In order to receive peace, you must demonstrate justice and love first. Social justice is peace and equality given fairly to everyone. Justice is often thought to be started with something erratic or violent, but most changes you see occur when it’s demonstrated in a nonviolent manner. This is the best way for justice to be upheld, and should be how we move forward in our society. We can see these examples in both our world and the fictional world in stories.
Paragraph 2 changes
Social justice being a concept of giving love and respect back is a concept present in the real world.
The Civil Rights Movement is an example of this statement.
It was a social movement that was started to combat the unfair treatment of Black Americans in the country.
Their most famous demonstration event would be “The March on Washington”, a nonviolent protest hosted in the capital of the country.
It demonstrated the demand for change in a way they wanted.
No one indicated violence because they knew it wouldn’t solve their injustice and it would actually actively hurt their cause.
If someone wants peace, they must show peace because that’s justice in its simplest form, getting the rights you deserve.
They demonstrated respect and the love for their cause, and months later, there were new laws enacted against acts of Segregation.
It’s like talking to someone when they’re angry.
You talk to them in a calm manner and don’t double down, you will notice a change.
If someone is angry and you show a certain attitude, things will not resolve and more conflict will arise with that person.
Paragraph 3 changes
We’ve seen a real-life example of social justice, where you must show peace and your own justice, but the opposite of this will provide you with the opposite effect and may even destroy what you were fighting for.
A prime example of this comes from the literary work “Animal Farm” by George Orwell.
In the story, the animals are fed up with the abuse they suffer from the farm’s owner, Mr Jones.
A revolution occurs and the animals have control over the farm.
The whole purpose of this revolution was to set a better future for animals, not too far from our own world.
However, just like in our world, problems occur when the leaders have power without the ability to use it wisely.
The leaders are the three pigs, but from the climax to the end, Napoleon has complete rule over the farm.
In the revolt for peace, it turned into the complete opposite with even more suffering done to the animals.
By the end of the story, Orwell creates the image: "The creatures outside looked from pig to man, and from man to pig, and from pig to man again, but already it was impossible to say which was which."

Corruption had turned this revolution upside down and they were right at where they started.
While many factors can be attributed to why the revolution failed, it boils down to the quote before.
Napoleon demonstrated a lack of empathy for other animals which created distant relationships with animals and a lack of respect for the animals.
He consistently broke the commandments and gave many extra privileges to pigs.
While it is a story about talking animals, you can definitely see influences from our world and it demonstrates how to not create an environment with social justice present.
I like how the author doesn’t just have evidence to support her argument of how to create social justice but also evidence to support how social injustice occurs to perfect their argument.
I agree with this connection to Animal farm because in the book, once the pigs got power and control, they used it to go against what they were fighting for in the first place without even noticing it.
I’m in favor of how this paragraph went into depth about how power corrupted Napoleon’s mind. The animals all just wanted equality in the first place. However, Napoleon realized that the farm was in his hands. His choices either made or broke the entire farm. He detached himself from the farm and solely focused on how he had all the power and wanted all the animals to be obedient.

Now we’ve seen different sides of the quote “Without justice and love, peace will always be a great illusion", this quote strongly represents what social justice is about.
While fictional, Animal Farm provides an insight into how the lack of love/empathy, and justice breeds a violent environment, but they were always told they were at peace in the farm, though the peace was always a great illusion.
The Civil Rights Movement demonstrated a much more good-natured environment.
While not perfect it created massively different changes and most would agree they would much rather live with the latter than the former.
That is how to make our world a better place.
We must not look for ways to fight but learn to love all the same.
