“Without justice and love, peace will always be an illusion”(Hélder Pessoa Câmara). Social justice is the view that everyone deserves equal economic, political, and social rights and opportunities. For a 10th grader, social justice means equal safety and protection for everyone. For the past couple of months, students mostly females have been experiencing severe gun violence in schools, workplaces, and homes. Important government leaders have been saying that they will help solve this problem, but it can't be solved if others don’t want to contribute.
Gun violence affects women’s rights in many ways, making them feel unsafe in their daily lives. 24 Bullets shows how gun violence can control and limit a person’s freedom. This fear stops women from feeling safe in places like home, school, or work, which affects their right to live without fear. 24 Bullets says “Because of a bullet I had to hide. Because of a bullet I had to lie. Because of a gun I can never feel fully safe when I leave the house or enter school”(Kayden Ferris). Society is always so worried about women when it comes to their health but not their safety. They do everything they can so that there would be more pregnant people, women were housewives and so they would have many medical conditions where they would have to take certain drugs that should supposedly help them but instead make everything worse. Women also live in fear that if a man would ever touch her, she would become pregnant and eventually have to have an abortion if she doesn’t want the baby. If the government wants to do something about women and help them be safe, then we should help the sick men to get their act together and stop torturing women. We should also do checks on the home life that gun owners have just in case the gun will not be used for its legal purposes such as protection. This way, women can feel safe. If women get abused, the government needs to start worrying about the mental and physical health of the future mothers of this generation.
Social justice, especially regarding women’s rights, is about ensuring that women are treated fairly and equally. For a long time, women have faced discrimination in areas like education, jobs, healthcare, and politics. This struggle is reflected in literature, such as “The Handmaid’s Tale” by Margaret Atwood, where women are denied basic rights and freedoms in a dystopian world. The book shows the extreme consequences of a society that controls women's bodies and limits their independence. The fight for women’s rights includes issues like equal pay, reproductive rights, and protection from violence, which are critical for creating a fair society for everyone. Just as Atwood’s novel illustrates, when women are denied their rights, it leads to oppression. In my church, women aren’t allowed to be part of any ministry. They should just be following their husband’s rules and not say a word up until my family came into the church. My mom didn’t like that there was inequality between women and men so she started fighting against the rules and now she has her ministry that I am also part of too. We serve women in the church with fasting, prayer, and weekly meetings to spiritually educate them. Her rebellion impacted the community because now more women want to be involved in different ministries and women started asking why we weren't allowed to serve in the church. More questions arose and more protests started arising. Now, after these protests, the church finally has equality.
In conclusion, addressing social justice requires a comprehensive approach to both women’s rights and gun violence. Measures such as stricter gun control laws, including background checks and restrictions on domestic abusers owning firearms, are crucial steps in protecting women’s rights. A society that takes women’s rights seriously, while also curbing gun violence, paves the way for a safer, more just environment.

This quote is really interesting and it was easy to understand that it connects to your claim. I like how everything in this essay connects back to the quote in the beginning of the essay.

I really like how you structure your introduction and the rest of the essay. I think one thing you can do is show an example of how gun violence affects mostly females. I think a lot of people would assume it would affect both genders equally.

As a woman, I can relate to this paragraph you wrote. I walk these streets in fear for my life every day, just because I’m afraid I will be the next victim of gun violence since it’s so prominent in Philadelphia. We women, or people in general, shouldn’t be living in constant fear because of people who abuse the second amendment.

I agree because people are still fearful of guns even if they own one. One story I’ve heard is when a mother had no other choice but to defend herself and her three year old toddler from an armed intruder. From the 911 call, she was scared, but still picked up a gun and shot the intruder. Seeing/wielding something that can take a person’s life can be terrifying.

I understand why you think this will help control gun violence but most people who commit heinous crimes with guns get them illegally so making it harder to get firearm legally wont really do anything. In my opinion the American government is spending their funding the wrong way.

I liked how in the introduction you used modern examples of how society has its issues, then included it in your essay. I like how you choose gun violence as a topic for your essay, because anyone of any background can be a victim to gun violence, yet there have been no laws against guns yet.

I agree with the topic that women should be treated better and regulations to make society safer. Having a safe environment/society is important for everyone. Also I like the approach to the topic of women’s rights and how some think of these rights as foolish while some politicians try to get rid of some of these rights. Taking away these rights is like taking away some basic human for women.
