According to the Guttmacher Institute “Thirteen states have totally banned abortions and forty-one states have abortion bans in effect with only limited exceptions.” The issue of abortion is a highly political topic but I believe that social justice should be granted to women who want to make their own choice regarding their bodies. As a 10th grader, social justice means standing up to discrimination and inequality that occur in the world. I believe that fighting for what is right and making a change in society can enhance the quality of life for others around me. Justice can be upheld if we stand up for what is right and fight for equality among one another.
Being of Catholic religion, it is a mortal sin to have an abortion. Although I've grown up always hearing negative opinions on the topic, I still believe that it is a human right and should be given to women to benefit them emotionally by not leaving them with too much responsibility than they can handle. Many women face resource limitations, such as financial problems and mental health problems due to not having access to abortion. According to studies from Harvard University “We found that denying people an abortion was worse for people’s mental health. The study found that people who were denied abortions had higher levels of anxiety and stress, as well as lower self-esteem.” From this study many women have negative reactions from not having the choice to abortion and it can have a big impact on their mental health as well.
Under certain circumstances, only some women are able to have abortions, but others don't have that right at all. Over the past 50 years Roe v. Wade has given women the ability to have a freedom of choice over their body’s but now that is not the case. As reported by The National Public radio “In a historic and far-reaching decision, the U.S. Supreme Court officially reversed Roe v. Wade, declaring that the constitutional right to abortion, upheld for nearly a half century, no longer exists.” This reversal can significantly affect my future because I believe I should have the right to choose. As a woman, if an accidental pregnancy occurs as I am furthering my education in college and the potential father wants to reject his role, he gets to continue with no impact on his life, avoiding his responsibility. Thus, I'm left with the only choice which is to give up my education and put the child first. Ending my education can lead to financial instability which would greatly impact my life and my childs. If I were able to have the choice of terminating the accidental pregnancy, I would be able to further my education and then become financially stable, so when I do want a child it will have an ensured future and alleviate other negative outcomes if I were to give birth.
One example of this situation that women could end up in is in the literary work called “The Cider house rules” This book sheds light on topics about abortion and other things like class divisions, poverty, and limited access to healthcare. A character in the movie named Rose who is black and poor is impregnated by her father and can not have the child. Homer, who is the assistant of a doctor who performs abortions is with Rose when she announces her unwanted pregnancy. Since he has the skills to perform, he is able to change Rose's life and terminate the pregnancy. Not only is having an inbred child bad it would greatly affect roses life in a negative way more than it would affect her positively. Because Rose is black, getting a proper medical abortion is highly unlikely. Therefore, Homer agrees to perform the procedure in the cider house. Since Rose was gifted with the opportunity to have an abortion she is able to go back to her normal life and doesn't have to worry about not being able to give the child the life it deserves. Rose is now able to freely decide what she wants to do with her future and not dread the overall complications of the pregnancy.
In conclusion, I believe social justice should be granted to women so that they can make their own choice regarding their bodies. Allowing women to have a choice can make the world a better place by empowering them with more control over themselves and a chance at a better life. The fight for women's reproductive rights can bring about significant changes in society and improve the quality of life for others around us. I think having the choice of abortions has a positive impact on women's lives, protecting their future and helping them further succeed in life. This matters to me because being a woman who is not able to make my own decisions makes me feel less valued than others and strips me of my human rights. Disregarding my peers' views from the Catholic religion, I want the choice later in life to have abortions so it could potentially save me from negative impacts that redirect my course of life.

It is better for a child to be born with a loving family rather than being born without one, doing so will cause the child more harm than good and I think it is wrong that women don’t get a say in what happens to their body. It is extremely unfair that if the father doesn’t want anything to do with the child the responsibility would automatically drop to the mother and how the father would not need to sacrifice anything while the mother would be criticized for being irresponsible and blamed for everything. I agree that women should get a say in what happens to their body and if people don’t want a child, they shouldn’t be forced to have one by other people. The child isn’t going to be taken care of by people who wont mind their own business, it’s going to be the responsibility of the mother and the baby is going to make the lives of both the mother and their own lives worse so its better to not have a child if the mother is not ready for one.

I like how you chose to focus your essay on abortion. Abortion rights are a prominent issue in the world that need more attention. Personally, I believe that abortion should be legal and this essay supports it. I also like that you talked about being Catholic as a connection, while many others, including myself, talked more about the color of their skin and culture.

I agree with the topic of allowing women to have a choice in their lives with legal rights. Abortion seems to take much of the space when talking about women right’s rights. With agreeing to be in a scenario of having a medically unsafe pregnancy abortion would be best to not risk me knowing the harm that will come if the pregnancy is continued. Being Catholic myself I relate to being told abortion is wrong and a sin but, I don’t see it that way abortion should be a legal right for every women who needs it.
