Imagine trying your best but still end up finishing it one minute before the deadline. You think you've finished everything, yet you've been assigned more work by your boss or authority figure. Week after week, you begin to feel as if your mind is stuck in this endless cycle of stress, like you're underwater, clogged with marine snow. Next thing you know, your work quality is declining, you're overworked, and you're feeling easily irritable. This situation is common in workplaces like schools. To me, social justice means that each side is willing to listen to each other and come up with compromises instead of coming up with excuses, blame-shifting, and exchanging hurtful words.

People's expectation of others completing things on time is way too high. When I first experienced it last year, I was burnt out and I couldn't remember a thing. I was hesitant to reach out to the teacher asking for an extension. When I finally built up the courage to ask, I was met with the words "You should have written something on the document". While this is true, I couldn't remember the instructions and thought it was best to not write down anything that would confuse me later. Though, my teacher may have been here for years and grown tired of students constantly not completing work and coming up with excuses, leading her to comment such words. Recently, my teacher, who has been teaching for roughly 40 years now, gets upset whenever my classmates and I make a simple mistake. This led me to become even more independent, only relying on others when I couldn't figure out something after 2-3 hours. In hindsight, the teacher shouldn't have said those words and should have been more understanding and empathic. Understanding the other person's views and coming up with compromises can benefit both sides and lead to a peaceful resolve.

Empathy and understanding is essential in making a solution work. People should know how much time a project takes up. It varies from person to person. This is where empathy comes in. It makes it so that the deadline can be achieved where the person can produce a great quality piece of work. Understanding comes from people that must have experienced tight deadlines at some point in their lives whether at school or at work. One solution, yet most "Effective is to reach out to others" (Smith and Reid). Communication also plays a major role in understanding the other party. Reaching out to others is effective because when you are stuck in a tormenting cycle of stress, it will cause you to think people won't be very understanding and empathic. Talking to my mom about my school situation about homework helped me figure out how to approach it effectively. Instead of shaming me for doing poorly, she is empathic and understanding which helped me overcome my burnout. Reaching out to someone that is trusted can help you understand your situation and oftentimes makes you feel as if you're not dealing with it alone. Communicating your needs enables people to understand the situation you're currently in and make adjustments so that you can produce your best work.

To make sure that this solution is upheld, there should be a third party (counselor or therapist) involved that will keep the situation confidential and come up with compromises. The third party will deescalate the situation if it becomes heated. They can also offer new perspectives that can make the opposing parties think it out thoroughly. If a third party seems too invasive, you and the person you are reaching out to should work out what the problem is and coordinate to accommodate each other. Having a third party intervention can be very useful if you know for certain that the opposing party refuses to listen or can get violent.

Empathy, understanding, and communication fosters a place where people are heard and accommodated based on their needs. This ensures that the burnout rates will decrease and will hopefully produce better quality of work. People in workplaces and schools will start being productive, if not better than before. Compassion allows for people to relate to other people so they won't feel alone. Counselors and therapists help ensure that burnout rates decrease as they prevent violent outburst from opposing parties. Though this solution isn't perfect, there are many other options to choose from. All of which have their own benefits and cons.
