I’m currently sitting on my couch, picking my brain trying to remember every key detail about the electoral debates. I was so intrigued when watching. These debates have revealed not only the candidates’ policy intentions but also the underlying philosophies they represent. Among the topics at the forefront are women’s rights and economic policies, both of which play a critical role in shaping the nation. Through a closer analysis, we can gain insight into how these candidates approach issues of accountability, policy contradictions, and the fundamental rights of women. A common observation in these debates is the emphasis on abortion rights. In this essay, I will focus on the topic of women’s rights within the debate.

When watching the debate through Writing Partners, I was very intrigued with using the different extensions such as the “ Trump Fact Checker”.
Throughout all of the debates, women’s rights to abortions were brought up several times.
Since the overturning of Roe v. Wade on June 24th of 2022, there has been an uproar.
This has been brought up throughout both debates.
For example, during VP Harris’ debate with Trump, Trump said, “Kansas allows a full pregnancy to be carried out then they decide what to do with the baby after it is born”.
After using the “Trump Fact Checker” that I mentioned previously, I was able to refute this comment.
One of the most contentious issues raised during the debates is accountability, particularly when policies impacting women’s rights are concerned.
1The debates also highlighted a series of contradictions when it came to candidates’ stances on women’s rights and childcare.
How can Trump be pro-kid but against a woman who MAKES the kids?
A plain and simple contradiction.

Reflecting on these debates, a few key takeaways emerge. I feel like if the state doesn’t have multiple women lawmakers, it will lack policies that comprehensively support women and their families. This sentiment echoes a broader reflection on the importance of diverse representation within government. Whether that be representation through color, religion, or status, the government lacks a diverse variety of people. As Tim Walz mentioned, understanding that “times have changed” is crucial for policies to remain relevant. How is a seventy-seven-year-old man’s emphasis on women’s rights valid? As citizens, we do our due diligence and hold our leaders accountable. We must hold them accountable for not onlonly policies that ensure women’s rights, but for the fair economic opportunities that they provide for us.
