As the 2024 United States Presidential Election between VP Kamala Harris and Donald Trump comes closer, promises are made, plans revealed, policies are disclosed. This may be one of the most memorable elections of our generation, as life will surely be different if either candidate is elected. Project 2025, a 900-page policy wishlist for the next Republican president, will be set into motion if Trump is elected. This “book” has touched on nearly every aspect of the American life, it will change the trajectory of many’s lives if activated. But more especially the severe limitation of reproductive health care and the Palestinain genocide are matters which consist of the most importance to me.
Mifepristone is a drug that ends pregnancies. Because many women cannot give birth, due to medical complications, disabilities, conditions, or babies created from incest or rape, they take mifepristone to successfully terminate their pregnancies. One policy in Project 2025 says the access of mifepristone will be heavily decreased. Just as well, doctors will not be allowed to perform abortions or have medical supplies that support abortions. As someone who’s had multiple miscarriages in my family, this proposed notion has infuriated me. While privileged white men sat at a table, discussing what they thought women should do with their own bodies, women all across America worried over this possibility. Similarly, there are also directives in the intivate about mass deportations. Should Project 2025 go into effect, birthright citizenship will be ended and families will be torn apart. In the Presidential Debate Trump antagonizes immigrants at every turn, he tags Mexicans as “rapists” saying they “bring crime to America”. It is disgusting, dehumanizing, and degrading. However, even with all this being said, VP Harris is not the ideal candidate either. She touched on many issues while at the debate, the genocide in Palestine being one of them. She claims that Israelians are just as much a victim as Palestinians are, however Palestine has been oppressed and under Israel’s thumb for generations. Seeing as the majority of the Palestinians are muslim, I see as though they ‘re my brothers and sisters; I feel for them deeply. I cannot stress enough how important the Palestinain genocide that is currently happening is to me.
As I contemplate what each candidate has to say, if anything at all, about Project 2025 as well as the Palestinian genocide, I try to reinforce those values and concerns in my heart. In two years I will be in one of the most life shaping points in my life. I know my President will have an impact on it so I will, I must, have a say in it. I will speak up and hope only that you are speaking with me. I encourage you to reflect on what pillars are in your life, how are they represented and spoken about by Kamala Harris or Donald Trump? This election will be life changing for many, and possibly yours, why stay silent?
