With the presidential and vice presidential debates just passing I saw some things that really stood out to me. One of the main things that stuck out was when the candidates talked about Roe v. Wade since abortion rights can have an effect on people I know but also other people so I believe it is very important. The Roe v. Wade decision was a case held in the Supreme Court that ended with a decision that the right to privacy implied that the 14th Amendment protected abortion as a basic right. If the right to have an abortion was taken away then that would be going against the constitution and the ground rules that need to be followed as a society.
To start, I believe that it is very important for women to have access to abortion clinics or other places where you can get an abortion pill. There are many reasons someone might get an abortion and it should be a personal choice. The hard conversations coach pointed this out. One example of the reasons I feel as though abortion rights are necessary is because what if someone was sexually assaulted and they became pregnant during that ordeal. Having that child may cause them further emotional trauma. Another example is if the woman may have difficulties during childbirth so she decides not to continue the pregnancy.
As expressed, I find that these issues are very important and I hope it is clear as to what effect these issues have on people every day. They are personal decisions that should be made by individuals and more specifically individual women. They should not be made by the state, government, or anyone else. The writing partners were very helpful in highlighting the issues that are important to me. I believe it is and was a very helpful tool in producing this writing.
