Vertical Farms

Vertical farms are incredibly useful for the future of our planet. If we continue with the current population trend it will soon be impossible to feed everyone with the current arable land we have. (Source F) Vertical farms are extremely efficient, very easy to control, and take up much less space than regular farms.

Vertical farms are so much more efficient than normal farms because of how easy they are to control and how you can pack much more into a smaller space. The yield in vertical farms is extremely high whereas the yield in open fields is low (Source C) and the ability to artificially control both environments also shows a drastic difference, with open fields being low and vertical farms being high. (Source C)

Vertical farms are also the future because they are much easier to transport or save from natural disasters than open fields. Nasa has already sent vertical farms into space. (Source B) They think vertical farms are the future of space travel and life on other planets. Vertical farms can also grow food all year round and in any place in the world making them much easier to use and implemeVent than open fields. (Source B)

Vertical farms are quite expensive to build and confine upkeep on. This makes them significantly more rare and the food they produce is more expensive. (Source D) Although this this food is expensive the ways to lower the cost are quite easy. The U.S. and other countries could pool resources and cut spending on certain things. This would mean we could easily give out grants and start lowering the cost of upkeep and repairing these vertical farms. This would, in turn, lower the cost of the food produced inside vertical farms. Over time, just like electric cars in the past ten years, the price will fall naturally as we get better technology for building these farms.

Vertical farms are the future of farming and other plants. They produce more food, are easier to upkeep, and can work all year round. Even though they are expensive we can quickly find ways to lower the cost. Vertical farms will soon be very common if not more common than normal farms.
