What will the future of transportation look like?
The future of transportation will likely be much more efficient, sustainable and comfortable. Through a variety of different modes, developments will be made to modernize current networks or build entirely new ones from the ground up. Technologies already being tested, such as self-driving cars, aerial taxis, hydrogen vehicles, electric planes, etc, will continue to evolve and become more mainstream. There will also be advancements in safety and automation. Though not radically different, the future of transportation will be better for the planet, our time, comfort and safety.
The future of transportation is largely driven by a shift in focus from simply moving people to giving people mobility. While transportation networks are built to enable movement of people and goods, mobility focuses on the factors that impact people and things' ability to move. This focus on factors will manifest themselves in new and better modes of transport, as well as making them logistically more efficient. Some of these new modes that could be developed are above. Mobility isn't just about having access to one mode of transportation but having the ability to access these services and the quality of those options. So, the quality of transportation will improve.
