An example of this is in line 50 where she brings up a talk her and her dad had when she was going to start going out to the real world. She uses this connection to express to her students that she once felt the way they did. She also talks about her growth as a young shy high schooler to someone who was named Poet laureate of the United States.
In conclusion Rita Dove uses rhetorical choices of Ethos, Logos, and pathos to build an ongoing connection throughout her speech. From using statistics to personal experiences Rita keeps her audience engaged while spreading a heartfelt message.
