I am not a football fanatic, in fact, I just don't really watch sports.
This includes basketball, one of my favorite sports to play.
I love it, but I don't have any allegiance to the 76ers; The Sixers losing does not matter that much to me.
Unlike many other Phildelphians, known for their love of sports and crazy fans, I don't care as much.
Now that is not to say that I didn't want the Eagles to win, I am still an Eagles fan, but I wouldn't be upset.
I'm happy they won because that means everyone else is happy and we get a day off.
Before the game started, I had the idea of putting money on the line.
Not legitimately through sports betting, just through a few old-fashioned side bets with my friends.
I didn't put that much money on the line, but it was enough for me to be invested in the game.
The thing is, I bet on the Chiefs winning.
In hindsight, that was a bad idea for two reasons.
One, people thought I was a disloyal Eagles fan, causing a lot of backlash.
Second, I should've realized that Mahomes was too young to get a threepeat already and if the NFL is scripted then they definitely weren't going to let this happen (this is mostly a joke but who knows maybe the NFL is scripted).
In my defense, I actually did this for a reason.
Because I'm not an extreme Eagles fan, I didn't mind betting on the Chiefs.
In my mind, this was a win-win.
If the Eagles won, we would get a day off and my hometown team would win.
If the Chiefs won, I would make some money, and the disappointment of the Eagles losing wouldn't feel so bad.
I know I'm not the only one who bet on the game, and according to this article I just read, a record 1.39 billion dollars was predicted to be bet on the Superbowl.
1.39 billion dollars on a single game!
That is insane.
Sports betting has continued to grow, and I can see the allure to it.
My side bets made the game more intense, and although I was disappointed when I lost, I was okay with losing.
(I won't become a gambler and I'm not supporting sports betting I'm just saying how I can see people falling into it).
Anyway, despite losing some money, this was probably the most enjoyable Superbowl I've had yet.
I had two friends over who were constantly clowning me as the Eagles dominated the Chiefs, and I couldn't help but smile.
That's what I got for betting against my hometown team.
The halftime show was also pretty cool, and I've been seeing many videos displaying Kendrick Lamar's symbolic message that I missed when I first watched it.
Hopefully the Eagles go to the Superbowl next year and maybe get two in a row.
That would be great.
Until next year though.
