During my first watch, the halftime show appeared very... lackluster. but then I started understanding n peepin' the meaning of Serena William's crip walks during the show were significant for showing the history of hip-hop. Samuel L. Jackson dressed as Uncle Sam and (in character) told Lamar he was being too reckless and ghetto. Kendrick talks about how the revolution would be shown on TV and that they chose the moment but the wrong individual. that statement was a reference to Gil Scott-Heron's poem named, "The Revolution Will Not Be Televised," the next thing he hinted at was mass imprisonment he had all his black dancers spin in a circle until we knew that they were performing in a prison yard. the set was made to point toward the problem of mass incarceration and racial differences inside the prisons. and blacks would be put in jail for longer than whites even for the same crimes.
