I learned from the annotations and reading that the problems of homelessness and it's solutions are far more complicated. It's not just about providing one hot meal or a room for just one night. It's about establishing long-term solutions, not only to provide resources for the homeless, but help them obtain permanent residence.
The article talks about prioritizing health and safety, which keep people safe. These requirments also help provide important needs, such as clothing, hygiene, and medical needs. There needs to be funding to build more shelters and house the hundreds of destitute people. With all these needs and priorities, it's more difficult to create more shelters and there's so much to provide. That's why there needs to be more accessibility to resources for the homeless. That way, they can find employment and/or permanent residence. If those long-term solutions were implimented, then there would be less crowding in shelters.
It's quite difficult, however, because there are multiple aspects regarding homelessness. Some people might be struggling with drug or alcohal addiction. Others might have disabilities or medical needs they couldn't pay off. Yet others struggled with the developments of the economy, losing their home. These are only a few examples. Homeless people have individual needs mcuh like all of us, so shelters usually have a hard time. They have to provide for everyone's basic needs, but also be aware of those who have seperate or different needs. It's similar to the social work system in a way, as the number of people who need help far surpass the number of workers. As such, loads of work get rushed in order to keep a system running. This is something to consider when implimenting long-term solutions to help homeless people. Ho
