Dr. Nathan F. Mossell
Dr. Nathan F. Mossell was born in 1856 and died in 1946. He was an American physician who was the first African-American graduate of the University of Pennsylvania School of Medicine in 1882. He was a pioneering African American physician and the founder of the Frederick Douglass Memorial Hospital and Training School in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. He was driven by the lack of opportunities for Black doctors and the inadequate healthcare available to the Black community, he dedicated his life to providing quality medical care and training opportunities. His hospital became a vital institution, serving as a haven for both patients and aspiring medical professionals of color during a time of significant racial discrimination. Dr. Nathan F. Mossell's legacy extends beyond his medical achievements. He was a strong advocate for racial equlity and a champion for the advancement of African Americans in medicine.
