I never agreed with the idea that kids are meant to be cooped up at a desk for 8 hours in school and then 3 more at home. The way our education system is structured may be great for preparing children to work in factories but it does not prepare them for the real world or let them be kids. Children should be able to move and play outside for a lot longer than they are and it is unrealistic to bring school work home if we are always told to keep work at work and home at home as adults. I am curious to know if other countries have different systems and how they compare to America in terms of retention and learning.

After reading and annotating my first article I have mostly verified that there is a problem. The U.S. has one of the worst education systems and test scores. Although this will only be a small part of my final essay it is important in establishing the purpose of my research. I am excited to find more articles about the education systems of other countries. Once I do that I can compare with data and figure out what works and what doesn't.

A 2021 Education Week article argues that “The USA ‘is now the worst-educated workforce in the industrialized world.”

Americans today tend to believe that America has the biggest and best in the world when it comes to pretty much every aspect of our lives.

When it comes to the topic of education in the United States, most people would not think the is a serious issue, however America’s education system is actively declining and is considered one of the worst in the world.

This article talks about how the U.S. is behind much of the world in education. It talks about how we have an outdated system that needs changing. Many of our test scores are lacking when compared to other countries, especially in math and science. We need to fix our system before it gets any worse. This article talks about the problem within my question and some general suggestions for solutions.

This article gives a brief overview of the different education systems in top-performing countries. It talks about four countries that have various approaches to educating their populations. It also compares America’s education system, which is underperforming, to those that are performing well. While this particular source doesn’t go into great detail about any particular country, it displays how different some education systems are. This also shows that there are many ways to get results. These countries didn’t take the same paths to get to where they are, but they all achieved impressive results.

This article talks briefly about some of the strategies Finland uses when it comes to their education. Since they have the number one ranked education system in the world, it is important to look at what works for them and how it compares to other systems of education. It discusses how teachers are highly skilled and selected very meticulously. This is vastly different from our system, as we have low interest in teachers, and they are very undervalued. The article also contains some impressive numbers that show why they are number one.

This article talks about some of the reasons why American schools are highly unsuccessful. It mostly talks about solutions to these problems and some actions we can take to provide a much better and more realistic education for our youth. One of the main focuses was engagement. This is so important because the student is ultimately in control of how much they learn. If we can get kids excited about learning it will be much more successful. The article also addressed the fact that schools don’t really prepare students for the real world. This seems like an obvious flaw in our system, but we have yet to do anything about it.

Education Systems Around The World: A Look At 4 Top School Systems – Globally Taught

Does the age one starts their education have a strong impact on what they get out of it as a whole?
Keeping an even playing field for all students seems to hold a higher standard overall.
I wonder how old outdoor play is incorporated into their school system.
This type of system makes education seem more enjoyable for both the students and the teachers which makes education more effective.
I would like to see this in practice to compare it to how we use devices in the U.S.
Does this contribute the effectiveness of the education?

How USA education measures up worldwide

This shows the seriousness and simply the presence of a problem within the education system in America.
this issue extends the confines of school and plays a large part in real world issues.
This shows that most people have an idea that there is a problem even if they don't know the extent to which it reaches.
Schools are not effectively preparing it's student for the real world and the rest of their lives. If this is the case than what is the point of schools?
The learning part of education is not the only part of schooling in which America is extremely subpar.

7 ways to improve the quality of education in the U.S.

Without engagement everything else pretty much goes out the door.
If we treat everyone the same, in this context, we will be preparing everyone for some careers more than others.
If the system doesn't take effort to create then it can't expect it from students either.
Why do we treat mental and physical differently? - When coaching a sport you have to meet the player where they are at because that is their current physical ability, and if you don’t you can’t make any progress. Same goes for mental ability, without complete foundations and understanding at each step no real progress can be made.
Sounds much more exciting, and the more excitement to better the learning.
This is much more effective when it comes to real life applications.
Students are much more capable than they are given credit for as long as they care. If we only give guidance when needed it is much more empowering.
