The clear differences in abortion policies articulated by Kamala Harris, Donald Trump, Tim Walz, and JD Vance during recent debates capture a critical divide that mirrors larger societal views on reproductive rights. One person would have strong views on a matter with a way to improve it for everyone, while the other had their ideology with no benefit to society at all. As I reflected on my comments from both debates, I noticed that I was mostly interested in the comments relating to women's rights. I often asked questions and requested fact-checks from AI writing partners on statements made when those topics were relevant. While on the topic of women's rights and abortion, I was very engaged because this debate of rights is important to me.
This topic is important because there is a push to eliminate things that women fought for centuries to gain. Simple things like reproductive rights, access to healthcare, etc. People like Donald Trump and JD Vance are fighting to get these rights stripped away from women. Donald Trump said things like, "You will no longer think about abortion," or his giving himself the title of women's "protector" shows that he doesn't take this seriously. The national rape-related pregnancy rate is 5.0% (ages 12-45), and the percentage of dangerous pregnancies is 6-8%. These statistics represent how important it is to have the option of abortions, etc. to victims or people at high risk of death from pregnancy so they feel that they still have some control over their lives.
With VP Harris and Governor Walz in office, women can regain control over their lives. VP Kamala Harris says she wants to "reinstate the protections of Roe." Which would prohibit states from banning abortions before fetal viability (around 20 weeks). She shows her support for women on many occasions. Her support of reproductive rights opened doors for a better America with her election.
