Title: Introduction
When watching this video, you will see a series of scenes from the book Long Divison by Kiese Laymon acted out.
We specifically choose the chapter “Baize” which is pages 10-35 in the second book.
The themes we discussed in this book are Self- Development, Communication, Relationships, And Racism.
A quote that stood out to us in this book was “Oh,” She said.
“Unfold your arms.
You ain’t gonna cover them with fat breasts.
What I’m saying is that your mind, your mouth, and your heart are finally working right.
You are finally sprouting out.””
You make me feel funny saying I got ‘breasts’, Mama Lara.”
“All I’m saying is that you are ready to move,” she said and looked me right in my eyes.
“Yeah, you ready in mind, body, and soul.” pages 10-15 Reading this quote you can get a sense of one of the key themes which is self development and very prominent in this book.

The image evokes a sense of warmth and connection, reminiscent of themes in “Long Division” by Kiese Laymon. The student might have chosen or created this image to complement an excerpt from the book that emphasizes family bonds, heritage, and emotional support, which are central themes in the novel.
The setting, with family photos and a cozy environment, mirrors the novel’s exploration of identity and the significance of personal and familial history. The comforting embrace in the image highlights the importance of community and relationships, key elements in the narrative.
For a deeper understanding, you might explore “Long Division” itself, focusing on passages that delve into family dynamics and personal growth. The novel is rich with insights into how past and present intertwine in shaping one’s identity.
Feel free to revisit the image and reflect on any additional connections you notice with the themes of “Long Division.”

I really like how they added pages and references from the book in between scenes. The best part of the video for me was their ending, the dance and explosion was unexpected yet funny. One question I have is what was the hardest part to record/memorize

My favorite part is the explanation, it really brings everything the book teaches us together and it makes me want to reread the book to find examples of these ideas!!!
I liked how their group separated their video into multiple sections. This made it easier for the viewer to understand. I also like how they implemented acting and scenes in their video as well as information. I wonder, how can we work on leveling audio? I also think that their captions were very helpful.
I really liked the part where Iman also started rapping. I think this was a very creative project and that is why the video and the part where she raps in my favorite part of their project. The part where they danced was also nice. Why did they start dancing? What was the meaning of this?
